A raven-haired girl stood atop a cliff that overlooked the royal city of Vegeta-sai, where the king and his family lived. The wind ruffled her wild waist length hair as she scanned the city with her sapphire eyes.

"This will be under my protection?" she asked a figure in the shadows, slightly turning her head.

"Hai, Videl-sama. All of which you will earn when you become an Elite of his highness, and it will come more quickly with thee father as a General. And what is thou doing to find a mate?" The old figure questioned the younger Say-jin.

"LEAVE ME!" She commanded harshly, as her tail unraveled from her waist and twitched violently. Bowing, the figure receded back into the shadows, leaving Videl alone once more.

A raven-haired boy looked over his cadet uniform: navy blue spandex with a hole in the rear (A "tail hole" ^_^), white gloves and boots with gold-ish tips, and the usual upper and lower body armor that all male Say-jins wore. His cadet ranking was today…and he had an intention to be a 1st class warrior, like his father Goku.

"GOHAN-SAN! GET YOUR BUTT DOWN HERE OR I'M LEAVIN' YOU!" Goku called from the front yard, where his mom, Chi-chi, and his younger brother, Goten, were waiting to see them off. Like a child going to an ice cream shop after school, Gohan rushed and met his family down stairs.

"Be careful!" Chi-chi warned her husband and son as they placed a kiss goodbye on her forehead. Goten fidgeted and managed to get hold of his older brother's tail.

"Brother play with me when he get home?" he asked, giving the oh-so-adorable puppy dog eyes. Gohan gave him a nod and patted his head. Within a few seconds, the two were out of sight.

Videl still stood on the cliff, reciting the old man's words: "Find a mate...a mate...mate..."when she got a telepathic message from Commander Nappa.

"Yea, dad?" Gohan waited for his dad to reply. And when he did he gave the face like this: n_n

"When are you going to find a mate?" Gohan face faults and falls a few feet from where Videl is standing. She whirls around the second he hit the ground.

"You alright?!?" To Gohan, it was a gentle yet strong, kind yet harsh, deep but feminine voice. He managed to pull his head out of the dirt to reply.

"Yeah, I'm f…" Gohan didn't get to finish his sentences, due to the shock he got. There, on one knee was the girl of his dreams: cerulean eyes that showed of happiness and concern, wild ebony hair that, unlike other female Sayins, was tamed and laying obediently in it's place. "I'm fine!"

"Good. That was quite a fall," she looked up to see Goku rolling with laughter, "Hey! Goku, long time, no see."

Gohan sprang up and quickly dusted himself off, "I'm Son Gohan." He held out his gloved hand. Videl's tail began to twitch nervously. It didn't go unnoticed; Goku saw it. (A/N: Videl has trained all her life in this story and has never known friendship. She trained with Goku when she was 13 years old, while Gohan was studying under his mother. Also, when Sayin's tails twitch, it means 1 of 2 things: Nervousness and/or anger.)

Act casual, girl. She took his hand and shook it. "Videl. Are you here for cadet ranking? You won't get it today."

Gohan blinked and realized he was still holding her hand. "Err…well, we don't want to miss it…do we?"

So, Videl made a right turn and sped off. Gohan managed to find the assembly area by zooming in on Neero's ki. (Neero = Sharpener)

"The general's daughter is gonna be here!" Neero wagged his eyes brows, "I heard she's a hottie and single!"

Gohan rolled his eyes, just enough to spot Videl coming down the steps in front of Commander Nappa.

"Videl! Over here!" Gohan waved. When she saw him, Videl smiled, and turned to Nappa. With a nod, he dismissed her. Next thing you knew, she was next to Gohan.

"I was only gone a minute!" she retorted, "Hey, man. Close your mouth." Videl frowned at Neero, who had his jaw dropped.

"ATTENTION cadets!" Nappa hollered, getting their attention, "Welcome on behalf of King Vegeta. Is it all clear that this was said to be the day of qualifications? Is everyone ready?"

"Well, you were told wrong. I am Commander Nappa and your General, who is away at this moment, is Hurcule Satan. The real qualifications are one week from today, starting at noon. DISSMISSED! I recommend you start training right away." Nappa left the group to stand there and ponder on his words.

"Sure," Videl followed Gohan into the sky and took off, leaving Neero to think about her.

That is the general's daughter! She's mine! So Neero started to think of a way to make her is forever. He came up with an idea to get Gohan and Videl away from each other.

Nappa hollered, getting their attention, "Welcome on behalf of King Vegeta. Is it all clear that this was said to be the day of qualifications? Is everyone ready?" "YEAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" Voices of 50 teenagers shook the area. "Well, you were told wrong. I am Commander Nappa and your General, who is away at this moment, is Hurcule Satan. Gohan asked, gesturing towards his home. "Sure," Videl followed Gohan into the sky and took off, leaving Neero to think about her. That is the general's daughter! She's mine!
