Once Upon a War by
~*Lady Sammyanthakins*~
Notes: This is An A/U. Videl is the Elite Warrior for a race called 'AkariNekos'. Akari Nekos are a peaceful race of aliens with human features but the white ears and tails of felines. Gohan is a Warrior for the Saiya-jins. These two races just happen to loathe each other with a deadly passion (political loathement!). So how does it end up that these two-. I won't go any further. You'll just have to read. ^-^
Kinda new to Videl and Gohan fics but read anyways! THis is a prequel to another story. Read this one before the other because you won't understand that one otherwise. The other one is 'Full Moon Rising'. Oh and our fav fighters personalities are the same. So that means Goku is the same happy-go-lucky guy and Vegeta is still haughty. ^-^
Chapter 1:
First Meeting Stealthy. Quiet. Peaceful. All words that describe my race. Beautiful. Prominent. Sophisticated. When you lay eyes open one of us an instant reaction of respect plays in your mind. I am an AkariNeko. It's hard to describe our looks. Many might say we are humans with cat ears and tails of the most elegant white tint. But we are not humans. We rest upon the planet Tenbun which as you must have guessed is far from Earth. My father was the strong and proud Liege of Tempest City. My mother it's High Priestess. And I, what am I you say? I am a Warrior. And This is my story. Loud. Rough. Strong. All words that describe my race. Proud. Handsome. Royal. When you lay eyes upon one of us an instant reaction of fear plays in your mind. I am a Saiya-jin. It's hard to describe our looks. Many might say we are humans with primate tails and hair of the most untamable material. But we are not humans. We rest upon the planet Vegetasei which as you must have guessed if far from Earth. My father was a third class fighter. My mother a proud human my father met on a trip to the planet. And I, what am I you say? I am a Warrior. And This is my story. ()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()() "Satan, Videl! Arise!" A young girl kneeled before a vast throne room which held seventy other inhabitants. She stood at this command from a faceless voice. Her eyes shimmered with anticipation. To all they looked like untouched sapphires. Untouched by the jewelers gold or silver moldings or a sharp cutting blade. The black hair swept into the signature low ponytails of the AkariNeko's framed her heart shaped face and made her snow-white cat ears stick out almost abnormally. "You have trained under the instruction of your father for quite some time. (The thought of Hercule with ears and a tail? OMG!!! LOL!) Now the Royale Council wishes you to train under the present Elite Warrior - Hikaru." From around the shadowed throne stepped a blonde hair woman whose face was already lined with young wrinkles. Her tried blue eyes matched Videl's own sparkling blue ones but did not hold that same spark which brought the younger of the two's to life. Various gasps were heard around the room. But all Videl could do was bow. Hikaru glanced to the Queen who was now standing. She was wearing a sky blue cloak with the hood down letting her brown hair fly widly in bouncing curls around her white cat ears. "Stand Videl. I officially announce you a novice of the Elite Warrior." Hikaru took in every little detail of the girl. Her clothing was that of an Advanced martial artist here on Tenbun. The long bell shaped sleeves tied tightly on with blue satin at the crook of her arms. The jewel encrusted belt that kept her long flowing skirt in place. The slits in that skirt up to her hips - ending just a few centimeters away from the belt. The sash that acted as a tube top. It wrapped from the back and was tied in such a way that a few inches of it hung against her stomach. She wore the silver sandals coveted by most Martial Artists of her race. Yes she would be perfect to be her heir. Hikari wryly smiled remembering how AkariNekos are supposed to look ageless. That was easy for those who never had to face the stress and tensions of battle. She had been foolish to want to be a warrior. The pride and glory came with terrible prices. War was not everything and it was just now she realized that. Just now when her purity had been questioned. It was a hard job. Why anyone would want to even challenge the Trials to receive the honor was beyond her. Though she had done it. Yes she had been young then. Videl quickly bowed to the last of the guests leaving and then turned to her new Sensei. The woman wore the short skirt of the most prominent of warriors - The Elite Warrior. It was black no longer the white material signaling to all she had seen her days of blood and victory in battle. "Gomen naisai. I did not mean to keep you waiting." Hikaru gave a small smile and pulled on of her ponytails behind her shoulder. "That's quite all right, Videl-san. We have a few years to get to know each other. How many years have you been training under your father?" Hikaru pulled a cup of tea to her lips drinking in the soothing liquid. "Ever since I was 5, sensei." Videl walked over to a small cushion nearest to a rice paper-covered patio door. She kneeled and rested her palms in her lap. "Ah yes. I believe I heard about you winning a Youth tournament." The conversation began to grow as the two women exchanged facts about their lives. ()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()() "You have to fight harder. Not these little punches here and there. Use your legs!" A boy kneeled before an entire class of students. His head was bowed as his instructor scolded him. "Hai, Sensei." "Kick! Jump! Your can't use the same style all the time. I don't even know why you bother with this training class." The white boots walked past him disgustedly turning to the rest of the class. "10 minute break. You, Son, stay with me." The smells of dinner roasting over the stove inside his home made his stomach lurch with hunger. He grunted and placed an arm around his waist. Even being hungry hurt. "Gohan, how do you want your meat done?" "Medium rare." He managed to groan out. His father walked in carrying a kicking, squirming, laughing little boy that looked exactly like him over his shoulder. "Hi Gohan. How was martial arts class today?" The little boy looked up at Gohan as his father set him down in his chair. "Yeah! Was Trunks there?" Gohan looked down running his hands through his black spikey hair. "I didn't look for him. I had a special training class with Sensei." His mother came around the corner carrying a large plate of succulent steak and placed it before him and his father. "A special training session? Oh I get it! Your the best in the class and he requested a spar? Am I right? Oh Goku! Our son is such a wonderful student!" Gohan looked down at his fork and knife and then at the delicacy on his plate. "Well not exactly..Evidently I'm not fighting hard enough. He insulted me right in front of the entire class." Gohan moaned while cutting off a rather large piece of meat and glomed it down. "Really? I think you fight just fine. Ahh well who really cares about some teacher's say-so." Goku did the same giving his son the best smile he could without allowing chewed food to fall from his mouth. Goku studied his son here and there during their meal. He was a strong warrior, very easy-going. He understood perfectly exactly what ailed him. Gohan was kind and gentle, one of the few saiya-jin's who were actually.there was something rather special about his son that no-one seemed to notice. Gohan was going to do something great one day. ()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()() Videl moved gracefully yet swiftly along the training room walls. Her stealthy movements did not catch her opponent's attention until it was too late. She leapt at the dummy in the center of the arena. It immediately jumped to life going into a fighting stance. 'Hmph. For being a robotic replica you are very smart.' She thought within her mind. Suddenly without a twitch of her 5 foot long tail, She charged. The dummy leapt to meet her halfway, it's dangerous claw-like nails aimed directly for the jugular. At the last moment, Videl ducked and bent her leg as she went past so the bottom of her foot caught the dummy offguard. She flipped herself over pinning the dummy with one leg then pushing off to land on the one of the four posts in the room. The dummy shook it's head, part of it's 'skin' peeling to show circuits and other wires underneath the skin. "VIDEL! Quick! Get out here right now!" Videl started at her Sensei's voice. It was urgent as if something was wrong or there was an emergency. She backflipped to the door and ran out. Hikaru had been calmly watching what the humans called television while listening to her teishi train against the robot. She had been coming along well and within the year she would be inducted as the Elite Warrior. Then a news-flash interrupted the program she had been watching. "In a recent statement from Queen Migoto the Saiya-jins have been making plans to speak with the High Council of Tenbun. It seems they want to make arrangements for Tenbun to become one of their 'colony planets.'" Hikaru could not - absolutely would not - believe her ears. It would be the last thing she would ever do! Become one of the Saiya-jin's little puppets! Later in Queen Migoto's council room, Hikaru's face seemed to grow even older. Migoto looked down at her hands on the table. "We have no other choice Hikaru. The Saiya-jins are much more powerful than us. They have hordes of soldier while most of ours are off trying to make allignments with other planets and races. I don't want to endanger the people of Tenbun." Hikaru glared at her Queen. She held a great deal of respect for the youthful leader but now she held only contempt. "Listen, your Highness, it does not have to be this way. Tell that damned King Vegeta 2 to wait and call back out men! I'll fight them all myself if I have to!" Videl stoof off in the corner of the room too busy in thought to worry about what her Sensei and Migoto were conversing so heatedly about. The Saiya-jins? Coming here? She would hate it more than anybody considering a Saiya-jin ship had killed her father's traveling jet. Her young and foolish mind began to devise a plan. From what she had heard of Migoto and Hikaru's dialouge there would be a first installment of Saiya-jin troops arriving sometime tomorrow morning. Certainly she could get to at least one of them. Or she could kill all of them. That would be a bonus. But then there would be a setback. It would most likely mean war for her people and Tenbun. She knew they would never survive one of their fabled attacks. "Videl-san can keep an eye on them if push comes to shove." Migoto said finally acknowledging the teishi's prescense. "Hai?" Videl answered hearing only her name. "Our Majesty requests you be there when the Saiya-jin arrive. To keep a look out and report any suspicious behavior." Videl knew there was no way out. The plain metallic council room seemed to be mocking her angered reflection. "Very well." "Supashi-bo!" Migoto stood and bowed to both of them before showing them the door. ()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()() Gohan beamed as his father placed a proud arm around his son's shoulders. "Now I realize your there on a strict mission but don't forget to snap some pictures of those female Akarinekos. I heard they're hotto!" Well needless to say he received a well-aimed frying pan to his head. "Now write everyday Gohan. Tenbun is a longways off. If you need anything I'll send Goten to bring it to you. He just received that space ship from Oujo Bulma." Gohan nodded and kissed his mother's forehead. He felt a familiar tug at his body-suit covered leg. "Have fun big brother and bring me back a souvenier!" "Sure thing little bro. Try not to annoy Reidou and Daifu too much, okay? I'll be back in two years at the most. Bye guys!" With that Gohan turned into the army of 30 or so saiya-jins and into the ship carrying them to Tenbun. After a while, Gohan found his living quarters and saw he shared them with two other people - a male and a female. As soon as he walked in they turned from their silent revenue to greet him. "Konichiwa! You must be Son Gohan. I'm Kaze." The girl stood. She was only a few inches shorter than him with greyish-blue hair and green eyes. She wore the simple battle armour like most Saiya-jin warriors on hers was more feminine. "Don't forget me! Ensoku is my name and-" Gohan watched as Ensoku tripped on one of the many articles of clothing laying on the floor. "Nice to meet you Kaze, Ensoku. I'm Son Gohan...But I guess you already know that." "Hai! Didn't you read the Placement list?" Kaze inquired seating herself down on her bed. "Of course he didn't! The Placement list was sent out ages ago and you know he lives way over by Rensha Forest!" Gohan blinked in silent confusion as the two warriors glared at each other. "Wait! Wait a second! Uhh how do you know all of these things?" Kaze shook her head and looked over at Gohan. "Well don't you know? You won that coveted Martial Arts tournament ten years ago when you were 6! Of course we envy you still! That gave you a headstart to becoming Elite warrior!" Kaze exclaimed. She jumped up and encircled her arms around his neck. An instant blush came over Gohan's face. "We're gonna be such good friends! I can't wait until I tell Soraya that i hugged Son Gohan!" When they landed Gohan was throughly hugged out not to mention he didn't want to hear anyone even mention that stupid tournament ever again! The beautiful landscape caught his breath as the troop made it's way down the unloading ramp. The crystal and glass towers caught his attention as the sun light reflect off of them just perfectly. 'It looks like heaven with all those white clouds. I wonder where those angels Daifu told me about are-' He thoughts stopped short as he reached the ground and standing before him was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. "Ohayo Gozaimasu and Welcome to Tenbun." She said with a hint of anger in her voice. ()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()() The others Saiya-jins just streamed past her ignoring her to look at the heart of Tempest City where they had landed. Some of their tails twitched so that when they past her they slapped her arms or exposed legs and left red welts. That's when Videl saw him. He was staring at her in awe as if she was radiating some light. 'This one might just be the only intelligent one of them.' She grimly thought before marching over to him. "Ohayo Gozaimasu and Welcome to Tenbun."
